What Our Members Say

Why Ronald joined:
I had sung in my local Catholic Church Choir since the age of 10 in Burma, where I grew up. I currently sing in my local church at St Gabriel’s in South Harrow. I’m not a trained singer but I do enjoy singing, so when I heard about HAMC, I decided to give it a shot.

I attended a practice session on one cold September, Tuesday evening. David Heasman (MD) had an informal chat with me after the session. I mentioned that I could not read music and only sang in unison; he then placed me with the second tenors.

I joined the choir in September 2009 and never looked back. Although we are a diverse bunch in nationality, age and careers, we all have one thing in common… singing. David has created a friendly environment where we practice hard, regularly.

During the year the Committee organise an annual BBQ in the summer and Christmas Dinner Dance in November.
We also try to have once a year, long weekends away with spouses, family and even friends, where we have a great time and get to know each other. We also have the opportunity to meet, sing with local Choirs and raise money for their local charities. HAMC is well organised and disciplined with a light vibe.

It gives me great please to know that I get to do what I enjoy, whilst the choir raise funds for various charities.

Why Bob Joined:
“Having been a member for over 10 years I’ve found that singing in a choir promotes social bonding, comradeship and a sense of achievement and belonging. You should try it!”

Stephen

Why Stephen joined:
I joined the Harrow Apollo Male Choir in 2006. I wanted to join the choir because I was lacking in confidence and was eager to find a sense of purpose. What a great decision I made, possibly the best of my life! Getting back into singing really has given me a new lease of life. The other choristers are fantastic to get along with and we all have such fun raising significant amounts for good causes. The fact that I have a visual impairment and Autism hasn’t been an issue to the choir at all. I was inspired to join by Gareth Malone who showed me that, contrary to popular believe, singing is open to people of all ages. He also showed me that average singers like me can make a fantastic sound.

Many boys join the school choir but leave singing when their voice drops. This choir is the perfect way to rekindle the love of singing and help so many charities in the process!

If you’re looking for some added value to your life, something to do on a Tuesday evening, and entry route into singing or even just a bit of fun, the Harrow Apollo Male Choir is a great option!
