On Wednesday 13th December, at the invitation of Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens, HAMC attended the Metropolitan Police, Harrow Borough’s Christmas Carol Service at St John’s Church, Greenhill. With More Than Just a Choir, we provided musical support for the congregational hymns, as well as performing some carols alone.

The Worshipful Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Margaret Davine was in attendance. As was the Representative Deputy Lieutenant, Mr John Purnell GM OStJ QPM DL in one of his last official engagements in this role. John has been a valued supporter of the HAMC over a number of years and it is hoped that he will remain in contact and attend some of our events. Simon Ovens announced that he has been appointed the new Representative Deputy Lieutenant for Harrow by Her Majesty the Queen. The HAMC extends its congratulations to him and wishes him well in his new role.

The address was given by the Reverend Barry Hingston, vicar of St John’s. The lessons were read by the mayor, the Deputy Lieutenant, the Leader of the Council, Chief Executive of the London Borough of Harrow, the Chief Superintendent and others. A collection was taken in aid of More Than Just A Choir.

After the service, mulled wine and mince pies were served by the local Police Cadets.

This was the 5th Metropolitan Police, Harrow Borough‘s Christmas Carol Service and the 5th time that HAMC have attended. It is hopefully not the last but with the reorganisation of the Met Police Service and a new borough commander in Harrow, time will tell.
