Along with 8 other choirs from the Harrow area, we performed in The Speech Room of Harrow School in the Voices for Hospices concert on Sunday 21st October at 3.15 pm in support of St Luke’s Hospice, Harrow (Registered Charity No. 298555). This was a musical celebration of the diversity and high standard of singing talent in our local area.

Each choir had a slot when they performed up to 3 pieces. The HAMC sang “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel”, “You Are So Beautiful/The Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Dam Busters March”. All the choirs came together at the end to sing 5 numbers: “Va pensiero” by Verdi, “Leaves in Autumn” by Gilbert and Sullivan, “Torreador Song” by Bizet, “Danny Boy” arranged by John Wyatt and the Finale from Act One of Aida by Verdi. The concert ended with all the choirs and the audience singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

Gillian Schiller, Head of Trustees of St Luke’s gave a moving talk just before the interval about the important and wide-ranging services that hospices provide. St Luke’s are looking for volunteers to help in all sorts of ways, so if you have some time to spare and can help and/or if you would like to make a donation their contact details are tel. 020 8382 8000 or email events@stlukes-hospice.org or click the appropriate links above.

The other choirs involved were Tonic Choir, West Harrow Choir, Stanmore Choral Society, Find Your Voice, Amici, Harrow Philharmonic Choir, More than Just a Choir and Harrow Choral Society. To organise such an event takes a huge amount of planning and preparation and thanks and admiration go to all involved. The total amount raised by this event was an impressive £14,000. (The proportion we calculated to add to our running total was £1,750.)
